Timberwolves- What went wrong

This is essentially a postseason summary for the Timberwolves. Late, I know.
First off, the Timberwolves, with a 31-51 record last season, probably underachieved this past season. Everyone will point to the numerous injuries to SG Branden Roy, PG Ricky Rubio, SF Chase Budinger, and C Nikola Pekovic, to name a few. However, the injury that caused the main demise of the Wolves was Kevin Love's, their star power forward. Now, this isn't because he essentially was out for the season. It is mainly due to the distraction he caused for the team and media. There was speculation all year about his future with the team and the real way he broke his hand, as some didn't believe the knuckle push-ups story (For those who don't know, go here.). This caused the team to be immersed in distractions relating to their most valuable player, and that played an important part in their demise this season.
Anyways, going to their actual season, the Wolves started strong, much like last season. Early on, they looked like a playoff team, especially with Love expected to return soon. However, the injuries hit, starting with Budinger, and the season fell apart from there. This proves that the Wolves don't necessarily need Love to be a decent team, perhaps the reason that the organization declined to give him a five-year contract. Given, they had an easy schedule, but even with that, they beat teams that were supposed to be better than a Loveless Wolves team.
In summary, this season wasn't as much of a failure as many people think. It showed that players such as J.J. Barea and Chase Budinger should be kept as bench players for seasons to come, as depth is the key to the Timberwolves' success.
